This policy explains how Libros Abiertos (“we,” “us”) handles personal information collected through librosabiertos.org.

Information we collect

We only collect information you choose to give us. We do not require an account, and we do not track you around the web.

When you fill out a form

Our “Adopt a School” and “Invite us to speak” forms ask for:

• Your name, email address, and phone number
• Your organization or group name, if you provide one
• Details about your interest — the school you'd like to sponsor, giving level, event type, location, preferred date, audience size, and anything you write in the message box

These forms are delivered to our inbox by a service called FormSubmit, which passes the message along to us by email. We use this information solely to respond to you and to arrange sponsorships or events.

When you donate

Donations and school sponsorships are processed by Zeffy, our donation platform. Payment details are entered directly into Zeffy's secure forms.

Information collected automatically

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any other tracking or analytics tools on this site. We do not set our own cookies. Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and pages requested) as part of normal operation and security.

Third-party services

Some parts of the site load content from other companies. When that content loads, those companies may receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies:

• To reply to your message and answer questions
• To set up and manage a school sponsorship
• To arrange a speaking engagement or event
• To send updates about the school you support or our work in Guatemala, if you've asked to hear from us
• To keep records of donations as required for accounting and tax purposes

What we never do

• We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information — ever.
• We do not share your information with other organizations for their own marketing.
• We do not use your information to target advertising to you.

We share information only with the service providers listed above, who process it on our behalf, and where we are required to by law.

How long we keep it

We keep correspondence and sponsor records for as long as needed to maintain our relationship with you and to meet our accounting and legal obligations. If you ask us to delete your information, we will do so except where we're required to keep donation records.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us at any time to:

• See what personal information we hold about you
• Correct anything that's wrong
• Delete your information
• Stop contacting you

Just email us at djwelch2k@gmail.com and we'll take care of it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we'll honor those requests regardless of where you're located.

Children's privacy

Our work serves children, but this website is intended for adults — donors, sponsors, churches, and partner organizations. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Photographs of students published on this site are shared with the permission of the schools and communities we partner with.

Security

This site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and donations are processed through Zeffy's secure platform. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information you share with us.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
